Many thanks to birthday boy Riku for exercising his flexible friend to purchase two tickets for this year’s Larmer Tree Festival – the full whammy from Wednesday to Sunday. We’re scaling down from last year’s very enjoyable but overwhelming WOMAD to something a little more manageable, but still adventurous in it’s music programme. There’s nothing like a good festival to return to one’s youth. It’ll be a return to familiar pastures for Riku, but for old bingo belly it’ll be a new experience.
Listening to JD Souther “If the world was you” – heartily recommended.

For one band, The Yardbirds, to throw up three great guitarists is amazing, but the subsequent diversity in output from Messrs Clapton, Beck & Page could not be more marked. Having dabbled with various rock variations, solo and with Cream and Blind Faith, Clapton is now solidly in a blues groove and doing very nicely, thank you. Page has really developed along similar lines from his work with the Yardbirds through his work in Led Zeppelin and in subsequent collaborations. Perhaps Jeff Beck has been the more experimental with his move through heavy rock to a more jazz based approach, often out of the limelight. If you were to ask me for a favourite track from each, then it would have to be ‘Bell Bottom Blues’ from ‘Layla & other assorted love songs’ for Eric, ‘Kashmir’ from ‘Physical Graffitti’ for Jimmy and ‘Freeway Jam’ from ‘Blow by Blow’ for Jeff. Any thoughts?

Well done Little Cat’s Dad, he’s secured us tickets to go to WOMAD this year, a first for either of us. We’re both interested in world music and up for new musical experiences, so I’m looking forward to a great time. Now I no longer feel guilty about leaving Mrs Wighteye on her own, for she has the delights of Paul Weller at Osborne House while we are away. we had our first kiss to Paul Weller (or was it Bryan Adams?) laying in the long grass on the riverbank opposite the Isle of Wight Festival in 2003. Happy days!

Had a bit of a laugh this morning (they say it’s the best medicine), listening to a Joe Walsh track I’d not come across before, ILBTs. If you don’t know it, it’s ‘I like big tits’ and there was some mirth as he sang “I like big tits, they give me zits..”

I like blues, just not so keen when I got them myself … hence the generally quiet nature of this blog for a time; lack of motivation rather than lack of interest in music. I find music can help me through many different kinds of moods and situations and is able to take me out of myself.
Lately I’ve been exploring the range of music blogs available as a result of reading that fabulous article in The Guardian about sources of free music. There are so many sites it is mind boggling, not sure I should even bother, but I’ll not give up yet.
Writing this listening to a live Pink Floyd recording, the result of some judicious surfing!
